Two former Sheffield United teammates have offered their best wishes to former Blade Gordon Cowans, whose battle with dementia has taken a terrible turn. The classy midfielder, better known by his nickname Sid, spent half a season at Bramall Lane after reaching 37, but dazzled fans and teammates alike with his skill and temperament.
Cowans only lost two league games for United that season before leaving for Bradford City in the summer of 1996, capping off an extraordinary career that included winning the English title and the European Cup with Aston Villa, a period at Burnley, and a return to Villa Park as a coach.
