LONGHORNS NEWS: Former Tulsa Pledge Heading To Forty Acres, With The three-star running back Committing To Texas As A Walk On.

Reid Watkins, a running back for the Fort Worth All Saints who switched from the Tulsa Golden Hurricane after being accepted to Texas, committed to the Texas Longhorns on Thursday, adding another preferred walk-on to the team.

The 5’11, 195-pound player had preferred walk-on options at Rice, TCU, and UTSA in addition to offers from Bethune-Cookman, Brown, Colgate, Houston, Navy, New Mexico State, and Troy.

Watkins, a three-star prospect according to On3 and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, is making use of the walk-on position created by Ky Woods, a running back who committed to Nevada and was previously the linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator for Jeff Choate.

Watkins has received other FBS offers, and his profile resembles that of other walk-ons who were awarded scholarships at Texas, such as linebackers Luke Brockermeyer and Jett Bush, but the running back position with the Longhorns won’t present that kind of upside.

Watkins claimed to have a 4.52 40-yard sprint, a 4.17 shuttle, and a 35-inch vertical jump before moving from Brock to All Saints.

Currently holding the position of walk-on for Texas is junior Colin Page, an Austin Anderson product.
