WILDCATS NEWS: Kentucky Baseball Makes History As SEC Champions For The Second Time

At Kentucky Proud Park on Friday night, No. 2 Kentucky won a resounding 17-7 run-rule victory over Vanderbilt to secure its second Southeastern Conference regular season championship, setting off fireworks over a videoboard featuring the championship emblem.

UK (39-11, 22-7) saw its first two batters of the game hit home runs, draw seven walks, steal eight bases, and get hit by pitch in a comprehensive and clinical victory on Friday. More significantly, it made Saturday’s last regular season game primarily about whether or not the Cats win the league title entirely.

The baseball team from Kentucky Wildcats has been playing well, and they won their second straight SEC Regular Season Championship Friday night! It was their first in 2006.

With an amazing 17-7 victory, UK defeated Vandy to take the series and move closer to a sweep later today.
The Cats are ranked #2 overall, and if they win the SEC Tournament, they could definitely lock up the top seed in the regional tournament, even if I don’t see them beating Tennessee to end the regular season as the top-ranked team.

After leading the Cats to their greatest-ever finish in his first season, Nick Mingione has had an even better year this year, perhaps the best Kentucky Baseball has ever seen.

In his seventh season, head coach Nick Mingione left even more of his influence on the program. He currently serves as a member of the coaching staff for both teams that have won titles and qualified for the Super Regionals.

That being stated, everything depends on what occurs next. In a few weeks, Kentucky will play host to the regional and attempt to make a real push for Omaha.
