The New York Jets have assembled a group that appears poised to compete for a Super Bowl in 2024, assuming all goes as planned. The team entered the summer with a number of roster gaps to fill, and it’s difficult to criticize general manager Joe Douglas’ efforts thus far.

Douglas has bolstered a youthful core of rising players with a slew of veteran additions this summer, resulting in a well-rounded group with few obvious weaknesses.

The Jets boast one of the NFL’s most talented teams, at least on paper. On such a deep squad, some players will undoubtedly go overlooked. These are the players we’ll look at here.

The following five players may be flying under the radar right now, but each has the potential to play a significant role for the Jets in 2024.

In recent years, the Jets have continuously devalued their backup quarterback, and it eventually caught up with them in 2023. Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles four plays into the season, leaving the Jets to rely on Zach Wilson and a slew of other less-than-stellar quarterback choices.

The Jets attempted to right their previous wrongs this offseason by signing veteran backup Tyrod Taylor to a large contract in free agency. Taylor will serve as Rodgers’ primary backup, providing the Jets with reliable quarterback insurance for the first time in years.

The hope is that Rodgers will remain healthy in 2024, but he is a 40-year-old quarterback coming off a torn Achilles. It’s worth noting that only nine quarterbacks in the NFL started all 17 games last season.

Quarterback injuries are at an all-time high, and if Rodgers is forced to miss any time next season, the Jets will be grateful they paid top bucks to get one of the league’s best backup quarterbacks.
