BREAKING: Newcastle star ruled out for six to nine months with ACL injury

Newcastle United star Sven Botman has been ruled out for six to nine months after suffering an ACL injury, the Premier League club have confirmed.

The 23-year-old centre-back is a key player for Eddie Howe’s side and his absence for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign and beyond is a significant blow.

Botman started and played 83 minutes as Newcastle crashed out of the FA Cup to Manchester City in their last match on Saturday.

The Dutchman has started Newcastle’s last 10 Premier League games having recovered from a knee injury earlier in the season.

But Botman is now set for an even longer spell on the sidelines as the Magpies confirmed the news of his latest setback on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘Sven Botman will undergo surgery next week after suffering a knee injury against Manchester City,’ Newcastle posted.

‘A scan has confirmed that he sustained an injury to his ACL and he is expected to return within 6-9 months. We wish you a full and speedy recovery, Sven.’

The Magpies currently sit 10th in the top-flight table, 16 points behind the top four with just 10 fixtures left, although some teams have played an extra game.

Newcastle return to action on March 30 after the international break when they host West Ham at St James’ Park.
